Patrick Ball is one of the premier Celtic harp players in the world and a captivating spoken word artist. In playing the ancient, legendary brass-strung harp of Ireland with its crystalline, bell-like voice, and in performing marvelous tales of wit and enchantment, he not only brings new life to two cherished traditions, but blends them in concert to create "a richly theatrical and hauntingly beautiful performance." Patrick will present "The Flame of Love", a spoken word and Early Music retelling of the greatest of medieval legends, The Romance of Tristan and Iseult.
Since the early 1970's Kevin has been a well-known figure in the Irish music world, both as a soloist and as a member of such esteemed groups as the Bothy Band, Patrick Street and The Celtic Fiddle Festival. In 2002 Kevin was awarded a National Heritage Fellowship in acknowledgement of his valued contribution to traditional music. Cal Scott is a native Oregonian who has recorded and produced over twenty CDs including nine with The Trail Band. Cal is also a composer for film, having scored over thirty documentaries for PBS. In 2006 his soundtrack CD from the film, "Scotland's Lighthouses", took fourth place in the Celtic Instrumental Album of the Year category in the Just Plain Folks Music Awards.
This lively world-folk string band performs original and hybrid traditional music and features Spokane locals Caridwen Irvine-Spatz on vocals and fiddle; Greg Spatz (John Reischman and the Jaybirds) on bouzouki and fiddle; Ivan Rosenberg (Chris Stuart and Backcountry) on dobro and banjo; and David Keenan (Ranch Romance) on guitar, banjo and mandolin. Individually they have received two Juno nominations, appeared on A Prairie Home Companion, and had music on Oprah and Deadwood, among other distinctions. Together they put on a rollicking good show.
Songwriter, composer, performer -- internationally acclaimed Dougie MacLean is a Scottish phenomenon. His music is 'strong yet subtle, hauntingly evocative yet contemporary in feel', and we are thrilled to be able to bring him to our stage. His lovely tune "Caledonia" has been covered by many artists and has become one of Scotland's most popular contemporary songs. His songs have been used in films, including "Last of the Mohicans" and he has been the subject of three BBC TV specials. With his exquisite guitar style, expressive voice, and honest performance, Dougie captivates audiences the world over.
